How gold gains are taxed
- Qatar has a territorial tax system and doesn't tax employees' salaries; PwC lists no personal income tax rate (reviewed September 2026).
- Capital gains that individuals make on real estate and securities are exempt unless the assets belong to a taxable activity. No rule taxes a private sale of personal gold.
- A self-employed person with qualifying Qatar-source income, such as someone dealing in gold as a business, may owe income tax on the profit.
- PwC notes that non-residents pay 10% on Qatar-sourced capital gains; this is aimed at assets such as Qatari property and shares.
- No VAT: as of July 2026 Qatar has no VAT law in force and no confirmed start date.
- Under the Commerce Ministry's anti-money-laundering rules, cash can't be used for sales or purchases of precious metals, stones or jewellery above QAR 50,000.
Reporting
- No tax return or tax report for an individual's private sale of gold.
- Dealers are supervised for anti-money-laundering and must check customers on cash deals of QAR 50,000 or more.
Losses
- No relief: as gains aren't taxed, losses can't be used either.
