How gold is priced in Thailand
Thai gold is priced per baht weight — 15.244 grams of 96.5% gold (about 14.71 g of pure gold) for bars — and in salueng (a quarter baht). The prices here are international spot converted at today's USD/THB rate, the same inputs the Thai benchmark uses.
The Gold Traders Association price
The Gold Traders Association of Thailand publishes the benchmark buy and sell prices for 96.5% gold bars and ornaments (plus a 99.99% price), calculated from world spot and the USD/THB rate. Prices move in 50-baht steps and are revised several times a day when markets are active. The association's price includes a dealer spread, so it differs slightly from the conversion here. Gold ornaments use a slightly lighter baht weight of about 15.16 g; 15.244 g applies to bars.
VAT
Gold bars of 96.5% purity or more are exempt from VAT for qualifying registered traders. For locally made plain gold ornaments, 7% VAT applies only to the value added (making charge and margin), not the full price. There is no import or export duty on bullion.
Online gold trading
Since January 2026, baht-settled online gold platforms must report trades to the Bank of Thailand and the Revenue Department, as part of efforts to curb the baht's strength.
