Buying gold in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi uses the same official UAE gold rates as Dubai, quoted in dirhams per gram by karat. With the dirham pegged to the dollar, the rate follows international spot almost one-for-one.
The prices on this page are the UAE's spot-based rate in AED: there is no separate exchange price for Abu Dhabi. Taxes and duties are explained on the gold price in UAE page.
Same rate as Dubai
The official retail rates published in Dubai are the reference for the whole country, so the per-gram price of 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold is the same in Abu Dhabi. What differs is the making charge each shop adds.
Where to buy
Madinat Zayed Shopping & Gold Centre is Abu Dhabi's best-known gold market, alongside jewellers in the city's malls.
VAT
Jewellery carries 5% VAT on the full price including making charges; investment bars and coins of 99%+ purity are zero-rated. Tourists can reclaim VAT on jewellery when leaving the UAE.
