Pakistan Gold Market Calendar 2026–2027

Pakistan's gold rate is set each trading day by the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association, Saturdays included, and gold futures trade on PMEX. Buying follows the calendar: the winter wedding season peaks in December, families buy ahead of Eid, a second wedding rush runs from Eid al-Fitr until Muharram, and weddings are avoided in Ramadan and the first ten days of Muharram. The next PMEX holiday is Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas on Friday, 25 December (in 60 days; closed all day, expected); the next wedding season starts on 1 November.

How the rate and the market work

Sarafa rate: the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA) publishes one rate a day for a tola and 10 grams of 24K gold, Saturdays included. Over the Eid breaks the rate is reported as unchanged, and the next one comes on the first trading day after the holiday. Shop prices add making charges (mazdoori), and registered jewellers charge 3% sales tax on locally made jewellery.

PMEX tola gold futures trade Monday to Friday, 5:00 am to 2:00 am the next day (PKT), under the contract specification; PMEX adjusts its international hours when US clocks change, so check its notices. On some gazetted holidays, such as Iqbal Day, PMEX has kept international futures open while closing futures on local commodities, and it closed completely on Christmas Day.

Ramadan, Eid and the wedding seasons

Ramadan 2027 is expected to start on 8 or 9 February, with Eid al-Fitr on about 10 March; Pakistan's Ruet-e-Hilal Committee decides, and Pakistan often starts a day after Saudi Arabia. Eid al-Adha is expected around 17 May.

Weddings drive much of Pakistan's gold buying. The winter season (roughly November to February, peaking in December) is the biggest; a second season runs from Eid al-Fitr until Muharram, which in 2027 begins around 6 June. In Punjab, the Marriage Functions Act limits wedding meals to one dish and sets closing times for wedding halls; Lahore sealed nine halls for breaches in October 2025.

Change in the international gold price in rupees over the 30 days up to each festival, every year since 2002. Gold rose in most 30-day spells over this period anyway, so a rise before a festival is not proof that festival buying moved the world price; local demand shows up more in dealer premiums and discounts. Each festival page has the year-by-year prices.

Pakistan gold calendar: FAQ

When is the next PMEX holiday?

PMEX's next holiday is Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas on Friday, 25 December 2026: public holiday; banks closed; PMEX closed in past years. This date is provisional until it is officially confirmed.

When is the wedding season in Pakistan?

The next wedding season runs 1 Nov 2026 – 7 Feb 2027. The main season, peaking in December ("Decemberistan"). Families buy bridal gold sets in the weeks before. It ends early in 2027 because Ramadan starts in early February.

Does the gold price rise before Eid al-Fitr?

Not reliably. Over the 25 years in our data, gold in rupees rose in the 30 days before Eid al-Fitr in 17 of them, by +2.9% on average (median +2.4%). Gold's long upward trend accounts for much of that, so a typical month shows a rise too. World prices are set in London and New York, so local festival demand moves dealer premiums and discounts more than the price itself.

Does the gold price rise before Eid al-Adha?

Not reliably. Over the 25 years in our data, gold in rupees rose in the 30 days before Eid al-Adha in 11 of them, by +0.5% on average (median −0.6%). Gold's long upward trend accounts for much of that, so a typical month shows a rise too. World prices are set in London and New York, so local festival demand moves dealer premiums and discounts more than the price itself.

Is the gold market open on Sunday in Pakistan?

The Sarafa association publishes its rate on trading days, Saturdays included, and the press reports the weekly move using Saturday's rate. We found no official rule on Sunday trading for Sarafa markets; practice varies by city and market, so check with your jeweller. PMEX gold futures do not trade at weekends.

Is the gold rate updated during Eid?

No. Over the Eid holidays the Sarafa rate is reported as unchanged, and the next rate comes on the first trading day after the break. This page's international price in rupees keeps updating whenever world markets are open.

When is Ramadan 2027 in Pakistan?

Ramadan is expected to begin on 8 or 9 February 2027 and Eid al-Fitr to fall on about 10 March, depending on the moon sighting. Pakistan often starts a day after Saudi Arabia; the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announces the dates.

Do people avoid weddings in Muharram?

Many families avoid weddings in Muharram, especially in the first ten days up to Ashura, so weddings cluster just before it begins. In 2027 Muharram is expected to start around 6 June.

Do gold prices go up before weddings and Eid in Pakistan?

Local demand rises, and the Sarafa rate can carry a bigger premium over the international price at busy times. But the rate mainly follows the world gold price and the rupee-dollar exchange rate, so it can fall in wedding season too.
