Gold Price on Festivals: FAQ
Which is the next festival for buying gold?
Dhanteras, on Friday, 6 November 2026 (in 15 days). The table lists the next date of every festival on this page.
Which festivals are associated with buying gold?
In India, Dhanteras and Akshaya Tritiya are the biggest days of the year for gold buying, followed by Diwali, Dussehra, Navratri and Gudi Padwa. In the Gulf, Pakistan and other Muslim countries jewellery is a traditional gift for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, and in China gold is a popular Lunar New Year gift.
Does gold get more expensive before Indian festivals?
Not reliably. Across 6 Indian festivals, the average change in the 30 days before the festival ranged from +0.1% to +1.8% in rupee terms since 2000. Festival demand in India matters, but the price is set by the world market — interest rates, the dollar and investment flows — and by the rupee. Each festival page shows the figures year by year.
Are these the prices Indian shops charged?
No. They are the international gold price converted to local currency at each day's exchange rate — the value of the metal before import duty, GST or VAT, dealer premiums and making charges. Indian shop prices were higher by the import duty in force at the time and by GST (3% since July 2017).
