RBI repo rate: FAQ
What is the RBI repo rate today?
The repo rate is 5.50%, in force since 7 October 2026. It is the rate at which the Reserve Bank of India lends to banks overnight, and it guides loan and deposit rates across India.
When is the next RBI policy announcement?
The Monetary Policy Committee's next decision is due on Friday 4 December 2026 at 10:00 am IST. The MPC meets six times in each financial year (April to March).
How do RBI rate decisions affect the gold price in India?
Gold is priced in US dollars, so the local price moves with both the world price and the exchange rate. Higher Indian rates make holding cash and deposits more attractive and can support the rupee, which lowers the rupee price of gold; a weaker rupee raises it. Import duty and GST also add to the local price.
Where do the figures come from?
The repo rate from the Bank for International Settlements (central bank policy rates), inflation from the BIS consumer price series (12-month change). Exchange rates: Federal Reserve H.10 (via FRED). Gold in local currency is our calculation from COMEX closes; today's figure uses the live spot price.
Policy rates and consumer prices: Bank for International Settlements (WS_CBPOL, WS_LONG_CPI). BIS data portal. Exchange rates: Federal Reserve Board H.10 via FRED. The BIS and the Reserve Bank of India do not endorse Corgano. Gold prices are COMEX front-month futures closes; prices in INR, cycle and yearly changes, the real rate are Corgano's calculations.
