Dubai Gold Market Calendar 2026–2027

Dubai's gold trade runs on two clocks: the Gold Souk in Deira and the city's jewellers, open most days of the year, and the DGCX futures exchange, which follows international trading holidays. Retail prices follow the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group's daily rate per gram. Demand peaks around Eid, the Indian festivals of Dhanteras and Diwali, the Dubai Shopping Festival and the cooler-month wedding season. The next big gold-buying day is Dhanteras on 6 November (in 11 days); it is wedding season until 30 April.

Hours and rates

Gold Souk (Deira): most shops open about 10 am to 10 pm, Saturday to Thursday, many with a break from about 1 pm to 4 pm; on Fridays most open from about 4 pm. Hours vary by shop, and in Ramadan most trade happens after iftar, late into the evening. Malls keep their own (longer) hours.

Dubai rate: jewellers quote the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group's rate per gram for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K. It follows the international price plus a set retail margin, and press reports say it is updated several times a day. Making charges and 5% VAT on jewellery come on top; investment gold of 99% purity or more is zero-rated.

DGCX: gold futures trade 7:00 am to 11:55 pm Dubai time on exchange business days, Monday to Friday.

Weekends, Ramadan and Eid

The UAE weekend has been Saturday and Sunday since January 2022; Friday is a half day for the federal government. The Gold Souk and most jewellers open seven days a week; banks and government offices close on public holidays.

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, with Eid Al Fitr around 9 March; the exact days follow the moon sighting. Eid holidays cannot be moved, but the Cabinet can move other holidays to make long weekends. Visitors can reclaim VAT on jewellery at the airport through the Planet tax refund system.

Change in the international gold price in dirhams over the 30 days up to each festival, every year since 2004. Gold rose in most 30-day spells over this period anyway, so a rise before a festival is not proof that festival buying moved the world price; local demand shows up more in dealer premiums and discounts. Each festival page has the year-by-year prices.

Dubai gold calendar: FAQ

When is wedding season in the UAE?

It is wedding season now: 1 Oct 2026 – 30 Apr 2027. Most weddings in the UAE fall in the cooler months, October to April, often after Eid. Jewellers say weddings and festivals drive their demand in the second half of the year.

Does the gold price rise before Eid al-Fitr?

Not reliably. Over the 23 years in our data, gold in dirhams rose in the 30 days before Eid al-Fitr in 15 of them, by +2.6% on average (median +3.5%). Gold's long upward trend accounts for much of that, so a typical month shows a rise too. World prices are set in London and New York, so local festival demand moves dealer premiums and discounts more than the price itself.

Does the gold price rise before Eid al-Adha?

Not reliably. Over the 24 years in our data, gold in dirhams rose in the 30 days before Eid al-Adha in 10 of them, by +0.6% on average (median −1.2%). Gold's long upward trend accounts for much of that, so a typical month shows a rise too. World prices are set in London and New York, so local festival demand moves dealer premiums and discounts more than the price itself.

Does the gold price rise before Dhanteras?

Not reliably. Over the 22 years in our data, gold in dirhams rose in the 30 days before Dhanteras in 13 of them, by +1.0% on average (median +1.3%). Gold's long upward trend accounts for much of that, so a typical month shows a rise too. World prices are set in London and New York, so local festival demand moves dealer premiums and discounts more than the price itself.

Does the gold price rise before Akshaya Tritiya?

Not reliably. Over the 23 years in our data, gold in dirhams rose in the 30 days before Akshaya Tritiya in 14 of them, by +1.6% on average (median +1.1%). Gold's long upward trend accounts for much of that, so a typical month shows a rise too. World prices are set in London and New York, so local festival demand moves dealer premiums and discounts more than the price itself.

Is the Dubai Gold Souk open on Fridays?

Yes, but most shops open later on Fridays, from about 4 pm to 10 pm. From Saturday to Thursday most open around 10 am to 10 pm, often with a break in the early afternoon. Hours vary from shop to shop.

Is the Gold Souk open during Ramadan and Eid?

Yes. In Ramadan most trade happens after iftar, and many shops stay open late into the night; they open later in the day. Eid is one of the busiest times for jewellery gifts, but check a shop's hours on the Eid days themselves.

When is Ramadan 2027 in the UAE?

Astronomers expect Ramadan to begin on about 8 February 2027 and Eid Al Fitr to fall on 9 or 10 March, depending on the moon sighting. The UAE usually announces the Eid holiday a few days before.

Is gold cheaper during the Dubai Shopping Festival?

The gold price itself doesn't change for the festival: it follows the international price. What changes are the offers: lower or waived making charges, gold coins with purchases and raffles. Compare the making charge and the weight, not just the headline discount.

Are banks and DGCX closed on UAE public holidays?

Banks and government offices close on UAE public holidays. DGCX publishes its own trading and settlement holiday list, which follows international holidays such as Christmas, New Year and Good Friday.
