How the price is worked out
- Net gold weight = gross weight − stone weight.
- Gold value = net weight × the gold rate for the karat (24K = 100.0%, 22K = 91.6%, 21K = 87.5%, 18K = 75.0% of the 24K rate).
- Making charges as a percentage of the gold value, per gram, or a fixed amount.
- Stones are charged separately — never at the gold rate.
- No VAT in Kuwait.
When you sell jewellery back, shops pay for the gold content only — usually at a discount to the day's rate — so making charges are not recovered. Plain, high-karat pieces and bullion coins lose the least.
