Buying gold in Delhi
Delhi is North India's biggest gold market. Prices are quoted per 10 grams for 24K and 22K gold, and buyers here favour 22K jewellery and 24K coins and bars bought as gifts and savings.
The prices on this page are India's spot-based rate in INR: there is no separate exchange price for Delhi. Taxes and duties are explained on the gold price in India page.
Why Delhi prices differ from spot
Every Indian city starts from the same international price, converted to rupees and raised by the same 15% import duty and 3% GST. City rates then differ by small amounts — usually less than ₹100 per gram — because of transport and insurance from the port of entry, local jewellers' association rates, how much stock dealers hold and how hard they compete. The biggest difference between two shops is the making charge, typically 5% to 25% of the gold value for 22K jewellery.
Because Delhi is inland, gold arriving through Mumbai or by air carries slightly higher transport and insurance costs, so the Delhi rate is sometimes a little above the Mumbai rate.
Where Delhi buys gold
The historic jewellers' lane of Dariba Kalan in Chandni Chowk and the shops of Karol Bagh are the traditional markets; large chains have showrooms across the city. Always check for the BIS hallmark and six-digit HUID.
When Delhi buys gold
Dhanteras and Diwali, Akshaya Tritiya and the winter wedding season are the busiest times.
