How gold is priced in Indonesia
Gold in Indonesia is priced in rupiah per gram. The most-watched figure is the daily price of Antam (Logam Mulia) 999.9 gold bars, sold in sizes from 0.5 g to 1 kg; jewellery is sold by karat, often 17K or 18K. The figures here are the international spot price converted to rupiah: the metal value before Antam's premium, a jeweller's making charge and any tax.
VAT and income tax on gold
Gold bars of at least 99.99% purity are taxable goods, but their sale is not charged VAT (PPN tidak dipungut) under Government Regulation 49/2022, unless the gold goes into the state's reserves. Gold jewellery uses a special VAT amount instead of the standard rate: 1.65% of the selling price when a manufacturer sells to a consumer, and 1.1% when a trader who holds purchase tax invoices sells (1.65% if it does not). PMK 11/2025 kept these rates unchanged after the January 2025 VAT increase.
The income-tax prepayment on gold (PPh 22) was reworked from 1 August 2025 by PMK 51/2025 and 52/2025: sales of gold bars and jewellery to end consumers are no longer subject to it, and licensed bullion institutions collect 0.25% when they buy gold bars. When you sell bars back to Antam, PPh 22 is withheld on buybacks above Rp10 million (1.5% with a tax ID and 3% without, as of early 2026); Antam has asked for this to be brought into line with the 0.25% rate.
Antam and the Logam Mulia price
State-owned miner and refiner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) sells 999.9 gold bars through its Logam Mulia business and publishes a daily selling price for each bar size, plus a separate, lower buyback price. Its prices follow the international gold price and the rupiah, with a premium that is highest per gram on the smallest bars. Since 2025 Indonesia has also licensed bullion banks (LJK bulion) that offer gold savings, deposits and gold-backed financing.
Karats and buying tips
Jewellery is sold per gram by karat, plus a making charge (ongkos). Besides 24K and 18K, Indonesian shops sell 17K jewellery as 70% gold and lower "emas muda" grades such as 9K (37.5%). Ask for the karat and weight on the receipt, which most shops want to see when you sell back. Keep Antam bars in their sealed packaging with the certificate, since damaged packaging can lower the resale price.
