Buying gold in Karachi
Karachi is the hub of Pakistan's gold trade. Rates are quoted per tola (11.66 g) and per 10 grams, and the daily rate announced by the bullion traders' association in Karachi is followed across the country.
The prices on this page are Pakistan's spot-based rate in PKR: there is no separate exchange price for Karachi. Taxes and duties are explained on the gold price in Pakistan page.
The Sarafa rate
The All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association announces the per-tola rate each day. It follows the international price and the rupee, but has often been a little above converted spot — dealers cited a premium of about $20 an ounce in mid-2026. The prices on this page are spot converted at today's exchange rate, so you can see that premium.
Why shop prices are higher
Jewellers add making charges (mazdoori) and sometimes a deduction for wastage (kaat) when buying back. Sales tax on jewellery is charged under special rules — see the Pakistan gold page for details.
Tax and duty information last reviewed October 2026. Rules change — confirm with your dealer or tax authority before a large purchase.
