Example: 10 grams of 22K gold at today's rate of ₹13,299 per gram with 12% making charges and the hallmark fee comes to ₹1,53,495 including 3% GST.

How is the price of gold jewellery calculated in India?
Price = (net gold weight × gold rate for the karat) + making charges + stone charges + hallmarking fee, plus 3% GST on the total. Some jewellers, mainly in South India, also add wastage or "value addition" — an extra percentage of the gold weight — instead of or as well as making charges.
What is today's 22K gold rate in India?
About ₹13,299 per gram for 22K and ₹14,518 per gram for 24K, as of Oct 21, 2026, 20:29 UTC (indian market rate: international price + 15% import duty, before GST). The calculator starts with these rates; replace them with your jeweller's rate if it differs.
Is GST charged on making charges?
When you buy finished jewellery from a jeweller, 3% GST applies to the whole invoice, making charges included. A different rate, 5%, applies to job work — when you give your own gold to a goldsmith and pay only for the making.
What is the hallmarking fee?
Hallmarking with a six-digit HUID is mandatory for gold jewellery sold in most of India. Since 14 September 2026 the Bureau of Indian Standards charges ₹75 per gold article (up from ₹45); jewellers usually pass this on to the buyer. You can check any HUID in the BIS CARE app.
What are typical making charges?
They vary by design and shop: machine-made chains and plain bangles carry low charges, while handcrafted, antique and temple jewellery costs much more. Jewellers quote them as a percentage of the gold value, as a rupee amount per gram, or as a fixed amount per piece — the calculator handles all three. Making charges are often negotiable, especially on plain designs and during offers.
Why is the gold rate on this page higher than the international price?
India adds 15% customs duty to imported gold (since 13 May 2026), so the local market rate is about the international price × 1.15. GST is then added to your bill. Jewellers' board rates can be a little above or below this estimate, so enter your jeweller's rate if you have it.
Are stones charged at the gold rate?
They should not be. Ask for the gross weight, the stone weight and the net gold weight on the bill: gold should be charged only on the net weight, and stones separately.
