How gold is priced in Malaysia
Malaysian gold is priced in ringgit per gram for 999 (24K), 916 (22K) and 750 (18K), with jewellers adding a workmanship charge (upah). The prices here are spot gold converted at today's USD/MYR rate.
SST and import duty
Gold — including jewellery — is not subject to Sales and Service Tax, as confirmed by the Treasury ahead of the July 2025 SST expansion. A 10% import duty on LBMA gold bars took effect on 8 June 2026; from 1 November 2026 the duty on qualifying minted 999.9 bars (roughly 1–50 g) is cut to zero. It was not yet clear in October 2026 whether larger cast and kilo bars stay dutiable.
Kijang Emas and gold accounts
Bank Negara Malaysia publishes daily buy and sell prices for the Kijang Emas, Malaysia's 99.99% legal-tender bullion coin (1, ½ and ¼ oz), sold through Maybank. Banks also offer gold investment accounts with their own buy/sell spreads.
