Selling Gold in Pakistan
In Pakistan old gold is sold to Sarafa jewellers, for cash or in part-exchange for new sets. Start from the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association's daily rate per tola and 10 grams, for the right karat; jewellers pay for the gold content and make deductions, so you usually get less than the published rate. For cash deals over Rs 2 million, jewellers must identify you and keep records under anti-money-laundering rules.

Where to sell
- Sarafa jewellers buy old gold and take it in exchange for new pieces; many families have old sets remade.
- Check the association's daily rate (24K and 22K, per tola and per 10 g) before you go. On 13 July 2026, for example, it was Rs429,736 per tola for 24K. During the June 2026 jewellers' strike the association stopped publishing its rate.
What you'll be paid
- Jewellers pay for the gold content, less their deductions; making charges aren't refunded.
- Deductions vary by jeweller and aren't published, so ask for them in writing and compare two or three shops.
ID, cash and paperwork
- Jewellers are covered by the Anti-Money Laundering Act, supervised by the FBR, when they carry out cash transactions over Rs 2 million: they must verify your identity and keep records for at least five years, including smaller linked sales adding up to Rs 2 million.
- Keep the receipt and your original purchase bill; jewellery is a capital asset for tax (see tax on selling gold in Pakistan).
Before you sell
- Check the day's association rate for the right karat, and the gold value with the gold sell-back calculator (choose PKR and tola).
- Have the purity tested in front of you, at a second shop or an assay centre if in doubt.
- Get the weight, purity and deductions on the receipt.
- Compare a cash offer with an exchange offer.
