Buying gold in Manchester, NH

New Hampshire has no statewide sales tax, so gold bullion, coins and jewelry are bought without state sales tax.

Gold has one national spot price in US dollars: the prices on this page are the same as on the gold price in the United States page. What differs in Manchester is tax, explained below and on the New Hampshire page.

Sales tax on gold in Manchester

No state sales tax applies. No general sales tax on bullion, coins or jewelry.

Full state rules: gold price and tax in New Hampshire.

Tax when you sell gold in New Hampshire

No personal income tax: the interest and dividends tax was repealed Jan 1, 2025, so there is no state tax on bullion gains. At the federal level, the IRS treats bullion and most gold coins as collectibles: long-term gains (assets held more than a year) are taxed at your ordinary rate, capped at 28%, and short-term gains as ordinary income.

Selling gold or gold jewelry to a dealer in New Hampshire

  • License: Licensing is local. Under RSA chapter 322 (secondhand dealers) and RSA chapter 398 (pawnbrokers), cities and towns license dealers and set the rules by ordinance. Examples: Nashua (Board of Aldermen, $50, expires 1 April) and Bedford (Town Council via Town Clerk, $50, expires 1 April).
  • Hold period: No statewide hold period found. Local examples: Nashua 30 days; Bedford 14 days (both earlier only with the police chief's written permission).
  • What the dealer records: Set locally. Nashua and Bedford require a written record kept 7 years with a detailed item description, serial numbers, date and time, the seller's name and address, a copy of photo ID and a color photo of jewelry, precious metals and coins. Nashua requires electronic filing with police within 24 hours after the business day; Bedford requires copies to police within 48 hours.
  • What sellers need: Set locally. Nashua: current government photo ID issued within 5 years; no sellers under 16 without a parent or guardian. Bedford: photo ID copied; no sellers under 18 without a parent or guardian who signs.
  • Who is exempt: Set locally. Nashua excludes businesses that do not buy directly from the public; both ordinances exclude furniture and books.
  • The law: RSA chapter 322 (Pawnbrokers and Secondhand Dealers, local licensing) and RSA chapter 398 (pawnbrokers), with local ordinances such as Nashua Code chapter 220 and Bedford Code chapter 188.

Dealers report a customer's sale to the IRS on Form 1099-B only for certain forms and quantities, such as 1-kilo gold bars, 1,000 ounces of silver bars or 25 or more Krugerrands or Maple Leafs; American Eagles and smaller lots are generally not reported. Any business that receives more than $10,000 in cash in one transaction or related transactions files IRS Form 8300. Bring a photo ID when you sell.

Tax and duty information last reviewed October 2026. Rules change — confirm with your dealer or tax authority before a large purchase.
