Turkish Wedding Gold (Düğün Takısı): Çeyrek, Bilezik and What They Cost Today
At a Turkish takı töreni the bride is typically given two to four 22-karat wedding bracelets and a jewellery set by the groom's side, while guests pin on çeyrek coins (1.754 g of 22K each) or, increasingly in 2025–26, 1 g and 0.5 g pieces of gram altın. At today's price, a typical set of 100 g (57 çeyrek) of 22K and 14K gold contains ₺556,322 of gold, and costs about ₺567,448–639,770 at a jeweller with making charges.

How the takı töreni works
Near the end of the wedding, the couple stands on the dance floor while family and guests come forward in turn. Bracelets, necklaces and chains are fastened on the bride on the spot and shown to the guests. Coins and banknotes are pinned to the bride's dress or the groom's jacket, each coin on a red ribbon with a small safety pin, and a sash often protects the dress. The groom's side usually brings the bride's bilezik and set. Close relatives give full or Cumhuriyet coins, and other guests give a çeyrek, gram gold or cash.
Under a July 2026 Court of Cassation (Yargıtay) ruling, items specific to women (bracelets, necklaces) belong to the bride. Coins and money pinned on the groom are his, unless the couple agreed otherwise or local custom says otherwise.
Coin weights: çeyrek, yarım, tam, Ata
All Darphane Republic coins are 22 ayar (0.916). The ziynet (jewellery) coins used at weddings weigh 1.754 g (çeyrek), 3.508 g (yarım) and 7.016 g (tam). The sikke or Ata versions are slightly heavier at 1.804 g, 3.608 g and 7.216 g (Cumhuriyet altını, the 'Ata lira'). Gram altın is 24K bullion in 1 g and 0.5 g pieces.
Typical totals
In 2019 a Gebze jeweller said couples usually buy two or four wedding bracelets, which at that year's prices meant bracelets of roughly 15–20 g each. Including a set and the bands, a modest bride's gold is therefore around 40 g, and a typical one, with four bracelets, a 22K set and a few dozen guest coins, around 100 g. Large family weddings in eastern and southeastern Turkey can run to hundreds of grams, and one widely reported wedding had a five-hour takı ceremony at which about 4 kg of gold was pinned on. These totals are estimates; no national survey exists.
2025–26: from çeyrek to gram altın
By June 2026 a çeyrek cost about 10,000 TL and gram gold about 6,100 TL. Jewellers said the çeyrek had become hard for ordinary guests to afford. Guests have moved to 1 g and 0.5 g gram altın, wedding bracelets remain the core piece but are getting lighter, and silver, gold-look or cash takı is more common in some regions. The World Gold Council recorded Turkish jewellery demand falling about 20% to 32.8 t in 2025, its lowest since 2020.
