How the date is set
The UK tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April. 5 April is the last day to use that year's ISA allowance and capital gains tax allowance (unused allowances cannot be carried forward); the new allowances start on 6 April. The date does not move at weekends, though ISA providers often stop taking payments a day or two earlier.
The weeks before 5 April are ISA season, when UK savers use up the year's allowance. That is a calendar habit of savers, not something that moves the world price of gold, which is set in London, New York and Shanghai. For how gold has done in the deadline's month: Gold in April.
