How the date is set
Contributions to a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) count for a tax year if they are made by the 60th day of the next year: 1 March, or 29 February in a leap year. When that day falls on a weekend the Canada Revenue Agency accepts contributions on the next business day, so the deadline was 2 March 2026 for the 2025 tax year and is 1 March 2027 for 2026.
The weeks before the deadline are RRSP season, when Canadian banks and brokers see most of the year's contributions. That is a calendar habit of savers, not something that moves the world price of gold, which is set in London, New York and Shanghai. For how gold has done in the deadline's month: Gold in March.
