What it's worth when you sell
First issued in 1979 (released 5 September 1979) on a three-year trial. It was 99.9% gold at launch and became the world's first 99.99% gold bullion coin in 1982, when the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz sizes were added. The Mint's first 99.999% gold bullion coin came in 2007. Sizes now run from 1/20 oz to 1 oz. Security features include radial lines, a micro-engraved maple leaf with the year and Bullion DNA.
Bullion coins sell at a premium over melt value (smaller sizes carry bigger premiums) and dealers buy them back at or a little under the spot value of their gold.
