Selling Gold in Australia

The Perth Mint buys bullion from recognised mints and gold jewellery of any purity (in person, with a legible hallmark), paying only into an Australian bank account. Second-hand dealers and pawnbrokers are licensed by the states and must check ID; in NSW they hold goods for 14 days. Since 1 July 2026, dealers that accept cash of $10,000 or more must enrol with AUSTRAC and check customers; many jewellers simply stopped taking large cash payments.
